Scarlett Johansson, American actress (born on November 22, 1985 New York City New York) has received acclaim for her ability to act across different genres ranging from period dramas to thrillers to action-packed films. Johansson was raised in New York City as the daughter an architect and the owner of a production company. She and her twin brother Hunter were the youngest of four siblings. She developed an interest in acting at a young age and was auditioning for commercials before age seven. Following a short period her studies began in the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute. Then, in the following years there was a Professional Children's School was opened in Manhattan. In the year she turned eight old, Johansson appeared alongside Ethan Hawke as Sophistry in an Off-Broadway show. At the age of nine her debut film was Rob Reiner's North (1994). Johansson subsequently appeared on screen in Just Cause (1995) but her first breakthrough came with Manny & Lo (1996) an upcoming film that follows orphaned sisters who run away. The Horse Whisperer (1998), in which Johansson plays a teenaged girl with facial disfigurement, received praise from reviewers.
